UFC 264: Poirier vs McGregor 3 (RESULTS)
Winning Bets
Dustin Poirier ITD (7.25 units)
This fight only lasted 1 round and ended with an injury. However you could clearly see that Dustin has Conor’s number and he would’ve finished Conor inside the distance had the injury not occurred.
Max Griffin (1.71 units)
Griffin was able to grind out the victory over Condit as expected. We thought Griffin would take the fight to the ground but it played out on the feet. Griffin is now on a nice little 3 fight winning streak after starting his UFC career 3-6.
Michel Pereira (1.71 units)
Pereira was the better fighter and fought a disciplined fight. He didn’t get into a brawl with the dangerous Price and was able to pick him apart from distance. His cardio failed him because he did gas badly in round 3 and basically took that round off knowing he had secured the 1st 2 rounds.
Jennifer Maia (1.58 units)
This fight ended up being closer than the judges scorecards indicated. Maia deserved the victory but Eye very game in defeat. The huge gash on Eye’s forehead from a head butt didn’t help her cause as it made for bad optics.
Brad Tavares (1.65 units)
This fight was extremely close with Tavares getting the nod. He was clearly the better fighter but his unwillingness to let his hands go made the fight closer than it needed to be. Sadly and surprisingly the UFC decided to part
ways with Akhmedov days after the fight.
Losing Bets
Stephen Thompson (-3 units)
This fight came down to whether or not Burns would be able to take the fight to the ground. We felt he wouldn’t be able to but he in fact was able to do it multiple times. In doing so he earned round winning control time which led to a unanimous decision victory.
Tai Tuivasa by decision (-1 unit)
This turned out to be a bad bet as the fight only lasted 67 seconds. Going into the fight we felt both fighters were durable and we thought Tuivasa could win a decision from the outside. That went out the window as Hardy was willing to mix it up early and often ultimately getting knocked out.
Dricus Du Plessis by submission (-1 unit)
We got greedy here and took Du Plessis by sub instead of inside the distance. Giles had been subbed multiple times in his losses so we felt that was the most likely outcome if he were to be finished. Instead Du Plessis dropped him and went on to pound him out to get the TKO victory.
Yana Kunitskaya by decision (-1 unit)
This turned out to be the worst bet of the night with Kunitskaya getting TKO’d in round 1. We felt Kunitskaya would try and make it a dirty, clinch type of fight that would go the distance. Aldana had other plans landing a beautiful left hook which dropped Kunitskaya. She proceeded to finish her shortly after.
UFC Fight Night: Makhachev vs Moises (PLAYS)
Billy Quarantillo over Gabriel Benitez by decision +275 (1 unit) Bet was placed on 7/16/21.
This is a closely lined fight and we expect it to go the distance. Quarantillo is a high output fighter with a good ground game as well. As long as he’s able to stay away from Benitez’s power we can see a scenario where he’s able to outpoint him and get the decision victory.
Dustin Stoltzfus over Rodolfo Viera ITD +400 (1 unit) Bet was placed on 7/16/21.
This fight feels like it will end inside the distance one way or another. Viera is either going to submit Stoltzfus or gas out trying. That’s exactly what happened to him in his last fight against Anthony Hernandez. Stoltzfus has yet to lose by submission so the thinking here is that he’ll try and survive the early submission onslaught from Viera. If successful
then the door opens for him to get a finish of his own from a badly tired Viera.
Amanda Lemos over Montserrat Ruiz ITD +120 (1 unit) Bet was placed on 7/16/21.
Lemos is quickly emerging as a player in the strawweight division. She’s currently on a 3 fight win streak over some good competition. Her only UFC loss came at 135lbs which is not her best weight. She holds a major class and power edge over the game Ruiz. We see her strength being too much for Ruiz to handle over the course of 3 rounds and her winning inside the distance.
Mateusz Gamrot over Jeremy Stephens by decision +220 (1 unit) Bet was placed on 7/16/21.
This is a fight between the old guard versus the new guard. Stephens has been in the UFC for 14 years! He’s still dangerous but his best days are behind him. Gamrot is talented and is dangerous everywhere. He’s not a big finisher however and Stephens is fairly durable. For those reasons we took a chance on Gamrot winning by decision.
Islam Makhachev over Thiago Moises ITD +150 (1 unit) Bet was placed on 7/16/21.
Makhachev is immensely talented and is a big time threat to win the lightweight belt in the near future. This matchup is actually a step down in competition for him. He’s already fought and beat high level BJJ competition in the past. We feel his heavy wrestling style will be too much for Moises to handle over the course of 5 rounds.
Makhachev also has improved striking and Moises was getting picked apart by Michael Johnson not that long ago. Moises is fighting in good form right now but Makhachev is on another level. We feel a TKO or even submission finish is live for Makhachev especially later in the fight.
