De La Hoya Apologizes For Boozy Broadcast, Baby

Former boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya was at the Triller commentary table for the Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren-led “Fight Club” pay-per-view (PPV) card last Sat. night (April 17) inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

Instead of lending his valuable insight to the promotion’s live stream, the aging “Golden Boy” instead chose to shout incoherently, call everyone “baby,” and travel back in time to when U.S.S.R. was still a thing (spoiler alert: it’s not).

“I’ve been in beast mode for about six weeks, right? And I got a little into it,” De La Hoya told DAZN Boxing Show (via Boxing News). “You know, I started having a couple drinks. And then they told me, ‘Why don’t you go and commentate?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, man! Okay, okay.’ I got a little over carried away. And I apologize. But it’s all good. It’s all good. I’m back in beast mode. I’m ready to go and I mean, as you know, I’ve been posting pictures and videos of me training. So, I’m gonna continue that. So, it’s on, baby.”

De La Hoya, who turned 48 back in February, is expected to make his “sweet science” return at some point later this year, because boxing comebacks are all the rage these days. In fact, former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield will compete on June 5 in Miami.

Triller is expected to face some stiff competition from the sport’s top draw, Floyd Mayweather Jr., when “Money” laces up the gloves to battle social media star Logan Paul, an exhibition bout also planned for June 5, though a location has yet to be finalized.

Stay tuned.
