Bellator MMA has ultimately decided to postpone Friday night’s event in Connecticut.
Less than 24 hours after Bellator president Scott Coker announced that Bellator 241 would proceed without fans in attendance at Mohegan Sun Arena, the promotion has decided to postpone the event due to the threat of the coronavirus, sources say.
The fights scheduled for the card will be rescheduled, however, it’s unclear when they will happen. A decision has yet to be made regarding Bellator’s upcoming schedule. Their next event is set for May 9 in San Jose, Calif.
The event featured two Bellator grand prix featherweight quarter-final fights, including 145-pound Patricio Freire defending his title against Pedro Carvalho.
Saturday’s UFC event in Brasilia, Brasil, is still scheduled to take place, however, fans will not be allowed to attend. UFC president Dana White told SportsCenter Thursday night that the organization will not be canceling or postponing any fight cards. This weekend’s UFC event is one of the lone sporting events in the world to remain intact.
