The much anticipated Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson fight is set to headline UFC 249 on April 18, 2020. That fight itself is worth the PPV price if and when it finally happens. As of this article the new location of UFC 249 has yet to be announced. The UFC is currently on hold like all other sports due to Covid-19 or the Coronavirus. The difference between the UFC and the other major sports leagues is that there’s a return date that the UFC plans to reopen for business – April 18, 2020.
UFC President Dana White appeared today with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto via his Instagram Live account to discuss UFC 249. While not announcing any specific fights, he teased his plans to make UFC 249 special. While discussing the upcoming UFC 249 card White said the following:
“We’re trying to build the baddest card that’s ever been done in the history of the sport.”
Okamoto went on to ask White to clarify how the card would look compared to the original scheduled card. White responded with the following:
“Some of the things are gonna work out, and some of the things might not work out so we’re trying to figure out if they don’t, what do we do.”
The UFC President did confirm that the Francis Ngannou vs Jairzinho Rozenstruik fight is something they’re looking to possibly add to UFC 249. That fight was originally scheduled to headline UFC Columbus this weekend before being postponed.
By the time UFC 249 comes around next month there will have been 3 postponed events – UFC London, UFC Columbus, and UFC Portland. Those 3 events account for over 30 fights that didn’t take place and could be added to future cards. All of those fighters were in the middle of training camps and should be in shape ready to fight. Now it’s up to Dana White and his matchmaking team to determine how stacked they want UFC 249 to be.
