UFC 252: Miocic vs Cormier 3 (RESULTS)
Winning Bets
Daniel Pineda (+2.35 units)
Going into this fight we felt Pineda was the more experienced, better all around fighter. That proved to be the case when Pineda got the 2nd round TKO over Herbert Burns. Burns is talented but this proved to be too much of a step up in competition for him at this time in his UFC career.
Losing Bets
Jim Miller (-1 unit)
We felt Miller was the more experienced fighter by far and had the better submission game. Miller started strong winning round 1 but slowed down in round 2. Pichel was able to wear him out in round 2 with his grappling. The fight came down to round 3 which was close but Pichel was able to pull it out and ultimately win a unanimous decision.
John Dodson (-1 unit)
We took a stab on Dodson at juicy dog odds and it just didn’t pan out. Going into the fight we knew that Merab was going to have a hard time implementing his wrestling game on Dodson. That proved to be the case with Merab only landing 1 takedown. The mistake we made however was failing to realize just how low volume a fighter Dodson is. Merab was able to win the fight with his activity while Dodson just waited to counter the whole fight.
Daniel Cormier (-2 units)
We felt Daniel Cormier was going to win this fight and ride off into the sunset as the greatest heavyweight fighter of all time. Stipe Miocic had other plans. Cormier started off fast and looked good in the early part of the fight. His chances to win however took a big hit when he fell victim to an accidental eye poke in round 3. From that point on he was compromised and Stipe was able to win a unanimous decision.
Missed opportunity – Marlon Vera live bet after round 1
We got cute and tried to extract more value than the over +250 dog that Vera was pre fight against O’Malley. The plan was to bet on Vera after round 1 due to the fact that he’s normally a slow starter and his odds would be much better after losing round 1. That plan backfired as the fight never made it out of round 1 due to O’Malley getting injured and ultimately finished by Chito. And yes the injury was caused by a Vera calf kick and wasn’t some fluke injury to O’Malley. Had we not decided to be greedy and just bet Vera pre fight, we would’ve had a winning night. Live and learn I guess.
UFC Fight Night: Munhoz vs Edgar (PLAYS)
Austin Hubbard over Joe Solecki +115 (1 unit) Bet was placed on 8/20/20.
The line on this fight has flipped as of this article with Hubbard now becoming the slight favorite. Hubbard isn’t anything special as a fighter but he is tough and battle tested. He trains out of an excellent camp which includes fighters such as Justin Gaethje and Drew Dober. Also he’s fought and lost to some tough competition in his UFC career. In his last fight he derailed a debuting hype train prospect (Max Rohskopf) by making him quit on his stool. The UFC recently cut him after that display.
Joe Solecki is another prospect who looks like he has a promising career ahead of him. He’s tough and brings an exceptional submission game to the table. Long term Solecki May very well be the better fighter between the two. However at this point in their careers we have to go with the more experienced fighter especially at the dog odds we were able to get him at.
Mizuki Inoue over Amanda Lemos -120 (2 units) Bet was placed in 8/21/20.
Mizuki Inoue is only 26 years old yet has 19 fights on her record. Some of those fights have been against legit competition. In addition to being the more experienced fight she’s also the more well rounded fighter. Inoue is a pressure fighter and is no slouch if the fight hits the mat.
Lemos on the other hand is 33 years old and had a total of 9 fights under her belt. She’s a good striker but does get wild at times. Her gas tank is questionable as she ran out of gas and was finished in round 2 of her UFC debut just 2 fights (3 years) ago. Inoue is the more experienced and better fighter everywhere. She should win a decision or possibly by stoppage if Lemos runs out of gas again.
