After four straight events in prime time on TNT, ONE Championship returns exclusively to B/R Live and Bleacher Report for their ONE Championship Dangal event on May 15. Like all of their events since returning after pandemic postponements, this bite-sized card will take place in Singapore at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The event is a showcase of several talents with Indian heritage, and is headlined by a heavyweight championship fight pitting long-time division king Brandon Vera against recent Ultimate Fighting Championship import Arjan Bhullar.

ONE Championship Dangal: Fights worth your time
Brandon Vera vs. Arjan Bhullar
It has been a very long wait since Brandon Vera last stepped into the cage to defend his title. The Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran has not competed, in general, since a failed bid to become a two-division champion at the promotion’s “Century” event in October 2019. However, it has been a whopping 30 months since he last defended his heavyweight thrown. The delay is over, and waiting to welcome “The Truth” back to title defenses is Canadian Olympic wrestler Arjan Bhullar. “Singh” may very well be Vera’s stiffest test in ONE Championship yet based solely on those serious grappling credentials. Credentials he has put on display in winning 10 of his 11 pro bouts and going 3-1 in the UFC.
You have to go back all the way to Randy Couture in 2009 to find the last time Vera faced this level of wrestling. Vera is certainly a better fight since that UFC 105 loss, however, he is a much older fighter too at 43-years-old. If he can keep this fight on the feet, he has as a big an advantage standing as Bhullar does in wrestling. What gives this fight added significance, aside from a title on the line, is the seeming shift change in the promotion as established champions fall to new blood. Long-time champions and stars Martin Nguyen and Aung La Nsang have lost their three titles in the last six months. It just feels like change is coming.
Prediction: Arjan Bhullar by unanimous decision
Bi Nguyen vs. Ritu Phogat
Ritu Phogat is one-third of the trio of talents representing India (along with Bhullar and Gurdarshan Mangat) on the card. She’s also the only female and unbeaten competitor of the three. “The Indian Tigress” is clearly a prospect, and one the promotion is going to great lengths to groom as a female face for the Indian market. In Bi Nguyen she gets another moderate bump up in competition and–like previous foe Jomary Torres–is a fighter in need of a win. While “Killher Bee’s” 5-6 record may not impress, she is a talented striker who went toe-to-toe with former kickboxing and Muay Thai ONE Championship titleholder Stamp Fairtex in 2019. Phogat needs to get this to the ground where she is most comfortable as she enters just her fifth fight. If she doesn’t, May 15 could be a harsh learning lesson.
Prediction: Bi Nguyen by unanimous decision
