With fighting a current afterthought, former UFC champion Conor McGregor is using his time to help Ireland prepare for the rising cases of COVID-19.

As the coronavirus continues to spread throughout the world, Ireland has unfortunately followed suit. On Friday, Irish leader Leo Varadkar implemented a national lockdown and instructed the country to stay at home for the next two weeks. Much like everybody else, Ireland needed to take extra measures to help “flatten the curve.”

McGregor, who has been very outspoken and helpful in trying to limit Ireland’s exposure to the virus, released an official lockdown address to his Facebook page late Friday night urging the Irish people to self quarantine and stay the course. That video can be seen in the above player.

Despite his past issues outside of the Octagon, McGregor is really stepping up and trying to assist in stopping the spread of COVID-19 in his home country. It’s an admirable attempt to do his part, but it hasn’t completely stopped “Notorious” from staying in fighting shape. The former UFC champion was seen dropping bombs in his basement just last week.

McGregor, who returned to action this past January to finish Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds, is likely preparing for anything at this point. He may even been used as a late replacement should something go screwy with the undecided UFC 249 event next month. But for now, “Notorious” will be putting himself in lockdown mode like the rest of the fighting Irish.
