Frankie Edgar seems to have already put Saturday night’s heartbreaking loss behind him.

The former lightweight champion took on Cory Sandhagen in a pivotal bantamweight co-main event matchup at UFC Vegas 18. “The Answer” fell victim to a beautifully timed flying knee that put him out cold 28 seconds into the fight as he suffered his first loss since dropping down to 135 pounds.

On Monday, Edgar took to Instagram and gave his thoughts on what happened on Saturday night at the APEX.

“I’ve licked my wounds long enough,” Edgar said. “I’m home with my family [and] life is good. On Saturday I was as prepared for a fight as I could have been. Props to Cory Sandhagen, he landed a perfectly timed and executed bomb on me, luckily I don’t remember it much lol. This game can be a cruel b*tch and Saturday night was just that, but I ain’t panicked. I’ve been here before.”

With the victory, Sandhagen has clearly put himself in a prime position to challenge the winner of the bantamweight title fight between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling at UFC 259 on March 6 after delivering a surefire KO of the year contender.

Edgar has now dropped four of six, getting finished in three of those defeats. The 39-year-old had a successful bantamweight debut when he picked up a split decision win over Pedro Munhoz in the main event of August’s UFC on ESPN 15 event.

As far as where this particular defeat takes Edgar, it certainly hasn’t seemed to take any of his highly regarded hunger and drive away from him.

“To my fans who always ride with me, I appreciate you all and you make this fun for me. [Until] the next time, see you all soon!”
