Kamaru Usman returned to Nigeria and received quite the memorable homecoming.

The UFC welterweight champion made his way back home for the first time since brutally knocking out Jorge Masvidal to retain his welterweight title at April’s UFC 261 event. A massive crowd greeted Usman at the Lagos Food Bank and showed their appreciation and excitement towards the welterweight division’s king.

Check out the video below, which was shared via Usman’s Instagram stories:

Per UFC president Dana White, Usman is expected to defend his title next against former interim champion Colby Covington. As of now, a date and venue has yet to be announced.

In their first meeting, Usman and Covington put on one of the best 170-pound title fights in history at UFC 245 in December 2019. It was the first title defense for “The Nigerian Nightmare” after capturing the title with a dominant unanimous decision win over Tyron Woodley. Usman would go on to stop Covington in the fifth round via TKO and would go on to successfully defend his title three more times—twice against Masvidal, and a third-round TKO win over Gilbert Burns in February at UFC 258.
