Longtime comedian and television personality, Rosie O’Donnell, spent a good part of her weekend celebrating the demise of UFC welterweight Colby Covington (see it here), because “Chaos” used obscene language, culturally insensitive jokes, and political satire to make himself relevant in his industry.
Sure, O’Donnell used obscene language, culturally insensitive jokes, and political satire to make herself relevant in her industry, but we don’t want to bog down a certain narrative with silly little things like “facts.” Let’s just dumb it all down to “Covington likes Trump, O’Donnell hates Trump, Covington lost.”
“A joy to watch him lose,” O’Donnell wrote after Covington suffered a non-displaced midline mandible fracture. “Sat his racist ass down. Greatest fight ever.”
Covington challenged Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title in the UFC 245 main event last weekend in Las Vegas, and after four-plus rounds of “Fight of the Night” action, Usman retained his 170-pound strap while Covington returned to the loss column for the first time since late 2015.
I hate to use anything as cliche as “you reap what you sow” but in defeat, Covington opened the door to this tsunami of post-fight punishment by aligning himself with Trump and essentially pissing off most of the world with his “Bad Boy” shtick. To his credit, he was at least smart enough to stay in character after the fight.
