The Ibirapuera gymnasium was expected to hold UFC 250 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on May 9. But now, it will be used as a field hospital for patients infected with the new coronavirus.

As the number of confirmed cases of the disease climb to 13,717 with 667 deaths as of Tuesday afternoon, and with most of the cases concentrated in the state of Sao Paulo, the local government has decided to use the set up a field hospital in the area.

According to the government, the sports complex is not expected to be available for events until September 2020. That date can change depending on the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic in the state.

The UFC announced Monday they will use a yet-to-be-announced venue in the United States to host cards, as well as a private island. According to reports, UFC 249 will go down on tribal land in California.

UFC 250 is currently scheduled for May 9 and features a bantamweight title bout between Henry Cejudo and Jose Aldo in the main event. Double-champion Amanda Nunes puts her featherweight crown on the line in the co-main event versus Felicia Spencer.
