Though they both came from decorated amateur wrestling backgrounds, Lesnar and Couture couldn’t have been further apart when it came to their standing in MMA. Lesnar was a pro wrestling star with just three pro fights under his belt when he was given a shot at Couture’s heavyweight title. On the other side, Couture was one of the most popular fighters in UFC history and a two-division world champion.
None of those outside factors mattered when they stepped into the octagon as Lesnar wobbled Couture with a big right hand before finishing with strikes in round two. Lesnar went on to successfully defend the title two more times against Frank Mir and Shane Carwin before dropping it to Cain Velasquez and later returning to the WWE.
