Gervonta Davis (24-0, 23 KO) successfully defended his WBA (Regular) lightweight title last night (Sat., Oct. 31, 2020) live on Showtime PPV from inside Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas, as the power puncher stopped veteran Leo Santa Cruz (37-2-1, 19 KO) via sixth-round knockout.

The lightweight clash lived up to its billing as Davis found a constant home for his punches only to have Cruz eat the shots and return with his own. Cruz’s effort was admirable but Davis’ power wouldn’t quit. The lightweight champ ended up connecting with a gnarly left uppercut in the sixth round that left Cruz motionless on the canvas.

Davis, 25, looked tremendous tonight with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. screaming instructions from his corner. The Baltimore southpaw is now 24-0 with 23 knockouts and continues to prove he’s one of the most promising stars in boxing.
