The upcoming UFC Fight Island 7 lineup just took a major hit as former women’s bantamweight title contender Bethe Correia has been forced to withdraw from her Wu Yanan bout, scheduled for Jan. 16 on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
That’s according to MMA Fighting.
The Brazilian will undergo surgery to remove her appendix and there’s no word yet from the promotion on whether or not Yanan will remain on the card, though it should be noted the talent pool at women’s bantamweight is not as deep as the men’s side.
Securing a replacement in time for Jan. 16 could be a pretty tall order.
The UFC Fight Island 7 event will be headlined by the Max Holloway vs. Calvin Kattar featherweight showdown and mark the promotion’s debut on ABC. Elsewhere on the card, Santiago Ponzinibbio rumbles with Li Jingliang.
