Ion Cutelaba and Devin Clark are both looking to bounce back in 2021.
The light heavyweights get the chance to return to the winner’s circle when they meet at a UFC event on May 21, with a location to be determined, MMA Fighting confirmed with sources with knowledge of the bout. MMA DNA was first to report the matchup.
Cutelaba’s past two losses were both to Magomed Ankalaev. They first fought in February and Cutelaba lost in just 38 seconds by TKO, though he immediately protested the stoppage to the referee who had waved the bout off after it appeared that Cutelaba was momentarily wobbled. A rematch was immediately booked, but was delayed on three occasions due to the COVID-19 outbreak that resulted in an event cancellation as well as a pair of positive COVID-19 tests for Cutelaba.
They finally stepped into the cage again in October at UFC 254, where Ankalaev won via first-round KO. Cutelaba (15-6, 1 NC) has lost three of his past four fights.
Clark (12-5) was featured in his first UFC headliner in November, but lost by first-round submission to one-time light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith. Since debuting with the UFC in 2016, Clark has gone 6-5 in the UFC.
