Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 185-pound champion Anderson Silva will make his boxing debut against ex-WBC middleweight titleholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Sat., June 19, 2021, a fight card that also features Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. battling Hector Camacho Jr. under exhibition rules.
I guess Roy Jones Jr. was busy that night.
“This promises to be an epic battle between two superior fighters with a global fan base,” Keith Schoen of Schoen Entertainment told TMZ Sports. “Everyone associated with this pay-per-view promotion and fighting fans around the globe are super enthusiastic to see these two great fighters meet in the ring.”
A price point has yet to be revealed.
Silva, who turns 46 in just a few weeks, parted ways with UFC after losing three straight, including his Oct. 2020 headliner against middleweight striker Uriah Hall. As for Chavez Jr., 35, he’s coming off a technical knockout win over Jeyson Minda last November, which improved his boxing record to 59-5 with 34 knockouts.
“When I look back at my journey, I see that nothing has been in vain,” Silva said. “I am extremely happy for the opportunity to test my boxing skills with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. I train continuously, always striving for resilience and to overcome obstacles. Fighting is my everlasting breath.”
