The winner of the UFC 264 main event between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier is expected to be next in line for a shot at the lightweight title. And the division’s new king Charles Oliveira anticipates seeing McGregor in his first title defense.

Charles Oliveira expects to see Conor McGregor in first title defense

In the tradition of TMZ interviews, the outlet caught up with Oliveira on the streets of Las Vegas and asked him about Saturday night’s headliner inside the T-Mobile Arena. The Brazilian is expected to be a special guest at the event as he does some early scouting for what he assumes will be his next opponent. When it comes to picking who will leave the highly anticipated trilogy fight with a win, the champ’s answer was simple.

“Conor McGregor by knockout,” Oliveira told TMZ Sports.

While the 31-year-old sees McGregor coming out victorious at UFC 264, he doesn’t have a preference between the two for his next opponent. In the event that Poirier does earn a second straight W on the Irishman, “do Bronx” is fine with either option.

“For me, it’s the same, McGregor or Poirier,” he said.

Oliveira (31-8-1) last fought in the June headliner at UFC 262. On that night in Houston, he secured his ninth straight win with a second-round knockout of former Bellator 155-pound king Michael Chandler.

UFC 264 kicks off at 6:15 pm ET with early preliminary action on UFC Fight Pass. The broadcast switches over to ESPN and ESPN+ for the featured prelims, then the main card pay-per-view begins at 10 pm ET exclusively on ESPN+.
