Outlook: Jon Anik put it best when he asked, “Is there anyone who has anything for her at 125?” after Shevchenko’s win over Jéssica Andrade at UFC 261. Lauren Murphy thought she had something, but Shevchenko shut that down as she has everyone since obtaining the flyweight title. “Bullet” patiently counterstruck early, and when she sensed Murphy’s hesitancy, she pounced and scored her second finish of 2021. Looking ahead, it’s not super clear who is next for Shevchenko at 125. She has definitively cleaned out contenders faster than the division can spit them out. She had eyes on Cynthia Calvillo, but Andrade put that to bed. At one point, she was booked against Joanne Calderwood, but “Jojo” needs a win before that comes up again. It’s a testament to Shevchenko’s dominance, but it also has everyone salivating over a potential trilogy fight against Amanda Nunes perhaps sooner rather than later.
